Deadline #10 HW #2 Annotated Bibliography

I finally found a decent book source which I was lacking.

Marotz, G. Karen, Herda-Rapp, Ann.Contested Meanings:The Social Construction Of The Mourning Dove In Wisconsin. Koninklijke, Boekhandel en Drukkerij: Brill, 2005.

I found this source on the Ebrary database, which was in the Mesa Community College Library website. The book has a part which discusses the social construction of the Mourning Dove hunt in Wisconsin. A proposal for a dove hunt started back in 1999 and stalled two years afterwards due to disagreements on both sides of the court. Many view the dove as a peace symbol, while others see the dove as a hunting opportunity. This battle of the courts was known as "anti's versus hunters". This book shows a great example of the hunting debate in America. Everyday there are hunting laws that are fought. I believe this book will be a great asset to my argument for WP #3 because it is a great example that can be used to show the controversy between anti's and hunters.

I found this article on the U.S. Sportmen's Alliance's website under current events. The article is about the emerging trend of deer populations now containing bow hunters. Several Midwestern towns are implementing bow hunting as an effective way to control the over-abundant deer herds. Granville, Ohio Village Council approved bow hunting in the community, Des Moines, Iowa allowed bow hunting in four city parks to safely control deer numbers, and Portage, Indiana opened its woods to bow hunting to control the deer herd that has caused extensive property damage and threatened endangered plants. Anti's tried to resist the ordinance and suggested using deer birth control, which proved to be ineffective. This article will be great data for my paper because it shows hunting as a wildlife-management tool, the effective strategies of pro-hunting organizations and hunters to keep hunting alive in America and change the public's eye about hunting, and a hunter's victory over the anti's.
