Deadline #5 HW #1 Reading Reflection

What I have learned from this week's readings are how to use library stacks, periodical rooms, and library reference rooms to find sources for my paper. In addition, I have also learned to use different field research methods to gather more information. Chapter 6 was useful in describing each way to get sources from print resources. I can now browse through stacks easier because all of the classification is subject based. I learned how to check out books and reserve them if they have been checked out on page 86. I can also consult resources in the reference room, to see if they acceptable for my research paper. For example, I can consult periodical indexes which lists sources in magazines and trade journals. This information will be valuable in finding sources for this week's annotated bibliography. Chapter 7 was about finding information through field research methods. The chapter went through the different methods, such as surveys, correspondence, public events, observations, and interviews. What I really liked from the chapter was the guidelines how to properly do each method. For example, on page 95-97, the book gave advice on deciding whom to interview and what questions to ask. I learned while conducting your interview, you want to be flexible and have many follow-up questions. This chapter will help me receive more information on my topic, and as wells as complete homework 5 of this week. One of the websites for this week was about the editing process and links to help with grammar problems. The other one was about work shopping, giving guidelines and advice on peer reviews for this week. This week's readings are going to help me complete my assignments and it brought back memories and assignments I did in high school, which used these kind of techniques (interviews, print resources, etc.).
